-The Story Gets Graphic (& Novel)-
Our past updates have mostly reflected the direction and design of Last Call, but little of the art that Kerry Crowe has been doing for the game. Today, that changes.
As a first-time developer, working with RPG Maker has its perks. It's easy to learn, has decent functionality, and doesn't require a ton of programming knowledge. But it does have downsides. I've found that there are some settings and moments that just weren't looking quite right. While that looks in some cases to bring out the surreal atmosphere, we do need some areas looking normal.
So instead of portraying every moment in-engine, we were inspired to bring back a method of storytelling in gaming that might best be known from Remedy's Max Payne series of games: the graphic novel style.
Kerry has gone to some great lengths to create some great panels to depict certain moments in the story that just weren't working well in-engine, and I have to say that it looks amazing. The roughs that he's worked on so far have done wonders in keeping the atmosphere while bring Last Call's small character cast to life. Not only is it allowing us to truly portray these moments, but it's given us a few unique ideas for unraveling the plot.
