Release Letter from the Developer
It all started "in this house".
Though the concepts for midnights had existed in separate pieces for a while, it was a combination of seeing Skinamarink and re-reading House of Leaves (and getting scared by both of them) that led to putting the pieces together for midnights. Within a weekend I had managed an original concept - one that, much like The House on Ash Tree Lane - changed over time. Working in RPG Maker helped that concept too - as I already knew ways I could use it to create a tense explorative and narrative driven experience, going beyond some of the ideas I had used in previous project concepts.
Yet it wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the help of some people alone the way - with both friends and the Spring 2023 Art and Design Capstone class at Lindenwood University, the latter of which this was my entry for. Their support in the form of feedback, testing, and just general encouragement helped bring midnights across the finish line in a way I'm happy with.
Today marks a special surprise as well: midnights releases on Itch today, ahead of its appearance in the Lindenwood Capstone Exhibition. It's all done, after all. So turn down the lights, sink into the darkness, take your time to explore it, and enjoy midnights.
